Description Avionics Certificate Program: This certificate program is designed for career entry and/or educational advancement as an avionics technician. Technicians are responsible for the servicing, repair and modification of aircraft electronic components. It is a job that includes removing and installing components, bench testing and trouble shooting complex electronic aircraft systems. Today's aircraft can be quite sophisticated with fly-by-wire, auto flight, global positioning, satellite navigation, automatic communication and receiving systems and in-flight customer electronic systems. It will provide the student with the foundation of knowledge needed to successfully function in an avionics technician environment. This program will provide an in-depth knowledge of today's modern aircraft electronics, incorporating the electronics theory obtained in the first year core electronics program. These modules were chosen to provide avionics students with an appropriate background in general electrical/electronic knowledge. Other units of study will include: general aircraft knowledge; aircraft power sources and distribution systems; aircraft wiring installtion; instrument, display and warning systems; radio theory; aircraft communication and navigation systems; pulse and radar systems; automatic flight control systems; rules and regulations for avionics technicians and FCC licensing. Employment opportunities are available in aviation electronic shops and large and small carriers. Other opportunities exist in fixed based airport equipment servicing. Upon completion of 42.41 credit hours required for this certificate program, the student may enter directly into employment or continue his/her education by pursuing an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
