Description Medical insurance billing professionals work for doctors, hospitals and insurance companies. They complete the paperwork that is submitted to insurance companies on behalf of patients. You will learn the following medical insurance and billing concepts: basic diagnostic and procedure coding, basic insurance concepts and terminology used by health insurance carriers, how to complete claim forms for commercial insurance companies including Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, Medicare and Medicaid, and a hands-on computer lab that will provide students to work with and navigate the insurance billing software. The Medical Insurance Billing program has proven to be successful in preparing students to obtain certifications such as: Certified Medical Biller (CMB), Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS), Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) through American Medical Billing Association or Medical Association of Billers and Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P) through American Health and Information Management Association. Students who successfully complete this program will receive a certificate from Delta College.
