Description This program prepares the learner for design engineering positions in industry by providing design fundamentals and computer aided design (CAD) instruction related to the industrial workplace. Focus is placed on the design process and the development of complete and accurate three-dimensional (3D) CAD models and/or two-dimensional (2D) drawings. The curriculum addresses both product and tool design and their impact on the manufacturing process. Design concepts are applicable to most areas of design engineering including automotive, defense, argriculture, furniture, appliances, heavy equipment, etc. Graduates enter the design engineering workforce and advance as they acquire job-specific skills as defined by employer product requirements. Graduates also have the option of furthering their education to earn a baccalaureate and/or graduate degree in design engineering technology programs. This field provides long term potential for career and economic growth within many areas of the design engineering environment.
